The Legend of Mietek Kosz, shortlisted for the Golden Goblet Award of the 23rd Shanghai International Film Festival (赌博app), will be screened this Friday. Directed by Maciej Pieprzyca and starred by Dawid Ogrodnik, the film tells the legendary life of the talented blind pianist Mietek Kosz.
The Legend of Mietek Kosz is adapted from the real experience of the talented blind pianist Mieczysław Kosz. In the film, Kosz is left nearly blind by a strange illness in his early age. Having suffered the abandonment by parents and the early death of his mother, he has emerged in the jazz field by virtue of his musical talents as well as efforts, and thus became a big name in music, being recognized by the world. Music may be the only savior of Kosz in suffering, and the only way for him to communicate with the world and fight against unfair destiny. He devoted his soul and feelings fully to jazz performance, and finally composed a "Rhapsody of Genius" of an assertive soul.
The film is stunning with impressive drama style and appeal. Maciej Pieprzyca, the director, is hailed as a Polish national treasure director. Most of his films are adapted from real stories and develop with unrivalled narratives and depictions of human nature. His feature film debut Life Feels Good scooped the most popular film honor at the Montreal World Film Festival for this merit.
Maciej Pieprzyca is an "old friend" of 赌博app. In 2017, he won the Golden Goblet Award for Best Director at the 20th 赌博app for his movie I’m a Murderer. Last year, The Legend of Mietek Kosz was shortlisted for the Golden Goblet Award and staged its international premiere during the 23rd 赌博app. Although Pieprzyca failed to participate in the premiere personally in Shanghai due to the epidemic, he expressed his gratitude and greetings to the Shanghai audience through a video:

The starring Dawid Ogrodnik is equally capable. He has won multiple laurels such as the Polish Film Awards and the Best Actor at the Seattle International Film Festival. This time in The Legend of Mietek Kosz, he also dedicated his exquisite acting skills to portraying the role of the blind pianist and creating a lonely soul with indelible talent vividly. This also marks the second collaboration between him and director Maciej Pieprzyca following the filming of Life Feels Good.
The soundtrack of The Legend of Mietek Kosz was personally composed by Polish jazz pianist and music producer Leszek Mozdzer. The tense narrative, coupled with the ear-pleasing jazz music, makes the film a rare Polish version of Bohemian Rhapsody. The film has garnered 16 nominations and 8 awards at major film festivals in Poland.
